There is a subway stop right at Lincoln Center, so if
you are familiar with MTA options you could stay
anywhere in the city and it'd be as good as walking
(you can buy cheap daily/weekly/refillable passes
cheap--much more practical but more complicated system
than Montréal!).

I usually stay uptown or at friends' houses when i'm
in the city so I don't know anything in the area
around the place...there are a couple cheap, clean,
not spacious but acceptable hotels all over upper
manhattan though. Around $110 seems the usual price
for a regular place to stay, in any case. Hopefully
you find some help before you jump into the fray, and
either way i'm sure you'll have a great time. Enjoy
your stay, and lincoln center!
