I had braces already when i began playing the clarinet. They never really
bothered me at all, except for once or twice after getting them adjusted,
but I was never in pain to the point to where I didn't (or couldn't) play.
And I didn't really notice a difference after getting my braces off. Maybe I
just adjust well. The only thing that bothers me now is a permenent bottom
retainer (behind my bottom teeth) that my orthodonist gives to everyone
after they get their braces off. After long hours of playing I tend to get a
lovely dent (though rarely it's a cut) in my bottom lip and sometimes even a
few itty bitty blisters to go with it.

Ahhh, what we do for the love of music...
