Klarinet Archive - Posting 000019.txt from 2001/12
From: Neil Leupold <leupold_1@-----.com> Subj: [kl] Re: Adult Braces Date: Sat, 1 Dec 2001 20:22:33 -0500
I'm responding to my own post (how bizarre). In that vein, I concur with
those who say that playing chess against oneself can become boring. Half
the time, I know what my next move is going to be... Why am I talking to
myself in front of 800 people? Because I read all 196 posts with the word
"braces" in them in the Klarinet archives this evening and I want to spare
you the annoyance of wasting bandwidth to suggest that I read the archived
posts. The general consensus is that there are no severely debilitating ef-
fects from orthodontic braces upon one's playing, the primary issue rather
being one of developing means to play comfortably. From the 196 archived
Klarinet posts, I gleaned ten distinct and reasonable suggestions about de-
vices, materials, and procedures that can be applied to alleviate discomfort
associated with wearing braces (and the retainer which must follow their re-
moval). I now feel relatively satisfied that I can have the appliances at-
tached to my teeth for a year without fear that they will be a dramatic or
impassable detriment to my playing. Thanks nonetheless to those of you who
were quick to reply to my recent post on the subject. On & off for over
seven years, Klarinet has once again proven itself to be an exceptional
resource for matters theoretical, academic, and practical alike.
Thanks again,
Neil
