Hello all. I was on the list just under a year ago and now I'm back. I've
been playing clarinet for about 2 1/2 years and I am Principle clarinet in
my high school band (I'm a sophomore).

I was at Lee University (a private christian college in Tennessee) for an
honors band under the direction of David Holsinger. He's great! He's his own
entertainment; just a fire ball of energy as my band director put it. We
played some awesome music, and I have a lovely dent in my bottom lip from
playing so much. During the performance in one of the songs, a drumer missed
her cue and it threw the song all out of wack, and so Dr. Holsinger STOPPED
and we started over, after he explained to the audience that there was a
missed cue and because it was being recorded he wanted us playing our best.
He wasn't mad at all. He didn't even seemed phased by it. I've never
experienced that, and I just thought I'd share that story with you.

Anyways, I was there with 5 other people from my school. Two of the brass
players (a trumpet and a horn) ate bananas constantly. I think they had
about 6 each while we were there over the weekend. I asked them about it,
and they said that bananas helped their lips. I was wondering if anyone knew
if this was true and just HOW this helps. And also, is it just a brass
thing? I'd imagine it is seeing how they use their lips more to produce the
sound than woodwinds do. But, who knows. It might have some benefits.

Thanks in advance,
Natalie
