Practicing at home is also about parents. To some extent, it's like homework
-- you don't have to like it, you just have to do it.

My wife's story: She hated to dry the dishes after dinner, which was one of
her chores. Her grandfather, who lived with them, said he would dry them if
she practiced piano until he was finished. She noticed how odd it was that
he always took exactly half an hour to finish, even when there were almost no
dishes to dry. . . . (She went on to get graduate degrees in music.)

As for me, I took my clarinet home every night, but rarely practiced at home.
Instead, I'd hang around the band room after school and during lunch hour,
playing duets with anyone I could find, trying out the Eb, alto, bass and
contra, and playing through orchestral transcriptions from the band library.

Best regards.
