My daughter decided she wanted to quit band at the same point. She also
had taken lessons and was doing fine. However, I thought she had given it
a good try (although she always hated to practice) and since she wanted to
be in choir instead I thought it was reasonable. She really enjoyed the
choir last year (she was also in the show choir) and her singing really
improved a lot during the year. She is now in advanced women's choir as a
freshman in high school and is continuing to enjoy it.

I suppose if my son Greg (who some of you have met at the last two
ClarinetFests) hadn't stuck with the clarinet I might have felt differently
about my daughter's decision.
