I believe that she should be required to continue long enough to get fairly
good at it. Then she is in a much better position to decide if she does or
does not want to continue. After one year, she may not have progressed
enough to know if she really likes it.

Once my daughter started, I made her continue for 3 years total. Then I
allowed her to drop it.
