When I started playing (as a fourth grader)my parents told me that if I =
started, I'd have to play for four years. Their rationale (which they =
explained to me at the time) was that that was long enough to have gotten =
past the early rough spots (so I wouldn't be quitting due to the normal =
bad beginner issues) and learned enough about the instrument that if I =
wanted to come back to it later, I would be able to. =20

That might be an option to satisfy both of you - it may just be a rough =
spot, it may be something more...=20
