As of 1937, no. The U S Air Force was created in 1949 as a separate branch
of the service. Prior to that it was part of the Army. I served in the
Air Force myself from 1973-1993, so I am pretty sure about this. You'll
have to forgive J. M. Dent & Sons for that error!
