I'm on tenderhooks!

After my break had ended, fish`n`chips for me - no turkey dinner, I
recommenced with, after advice, The Battle Hymn of the Republic, America the
Beautiful and last of all The Star Spangled Banner. I threw in The Stars and
Stripes for luck immediately after. All this brought the house
down -singing, cheering, reverent respect and applause. I allowed for a
moment`s pause before setting off again with my New York songs. I had only
got half way thru` the second song - I had three, when to my surprise the
room started to empty. It was as tho` my 'tribute' to NY was being ignored.
In fact, fully half of the room left, after which a steady trickle continued
to leave, leaving only two half tables of 'die-hards' behind. In the
restaurant I normally finish at 11pm. At 10.30 I was able to end my
never-the-less enjoyable session with Rhapsody in Blue and As Time Goes By.
One pilot came to speak to me. He thanked me for the Pal Joey medley, and as
a trumpet player, related his kind of gigs to me in a community wind band.
He 'slipped' a fiver into my breast pocket.
I collected my car from the car park and idled home at the legal limit of
70! :<)
