Tony,

I think this is a subject worth discussing. While I value my repairman
(craftsman)'s work VERY highly, I would like to know more about all of this
stuff.

I've also watched Kal Opperman at work on my instruments, barrels and
mouthpieces and I can't attribute his wonderful work to anything else but 70
years of hard work, experience and determination. As he puts it, there's no
magic genie that's doing all of this stuff and as I see it, it should be
possible to do at least a minimal amount of this type of work to one's
instruments without destroying them completely. (though perhaps not at
first!)

Interesting topic, and one of the first I've seen in a while. Anyone else?

Regards,
Michael Norsworthy
