Dear Thomas,

You are right we stopped the production of the DG in 1999. The DG was
designed by Daniel Gauthier who was after Robert Carree (who designed the
R13 and RC)the bore was slightly smaller at the cylinder compared to the R13
14.62mm (DG) 14.64mm (R13). And the general design was more conical.
This model was quiet popular in Eastern Europe and Europe. It never really
took off in North America or Japan. I know some players here that plays on
it. As far as I remember I believe that Stanley Drucker as one but he
doesn't plays it in the orchestra. He uses his R13.

I hope this will complete your already full answer

This is correct, they are Prestiges like the RC. Supposedly with a more
"german" bore (dark sound, HiHi) .
I own and use a pair of DG's. They were sold out here about a year ago for
about 1800$ a piece. I was able to choose from a large stock of DGA's that
were remarkably different to my and my advisors ears.
Quite a few professionals in Switzerland and elsewhere bought them but the
market was too small for Buffet.
I like them very much and got excellent instruments for reasonnable money.
My inquiries never met adequate information as to what exactly the
differences of this model are, say compared to a standard RC. Buffet Germany
wrote me, that this instrument "is particularly suitable for the classical
player" (HoHo).
Cordially,
Thomas Schaffner

Thanks Thomas. Your experience with Buffet mirrors that offered to many of
us who get less than adequate explanations from organizations who ought to
want to court us to keep us happy and to make money from us, but they
don't. Nice description.
