Walter says:

In re-reading this post, I realized I had replied in haste and made a mis-leading response.

<<My research tells me that the lowest 1/3 or 1/4 of the bore inside the barrel controls the twelths from E to B, F to C.>>

This part is OK. Obviously I mean the throat register to the A, B, and C at the top of the clarion.

I went on to say:

<<I have had some success opening the bore of the barrel in the lowest 1/4 section of the bore a few thousandths of an inch.

Counter-intuitively, opening this area raised the throat tones and lowered the clarion A, B, C; the corresponding 12ths.>>

I made it sound like this could be done to any old barrel. It cannot.

What I have been doing is boring a berrel to a very tight "Moennig" style reverse-conical bore, then opening the lower end, the small end of the cone, as it were.

This is what I was describing. If the bore of a given barrel is already reamed to something say, 14.7. (assuming an R-13 type bore, not an old B&H or a Selmer CT) additional reaming will just cause more problems.

Sorry if I misled anyone.

Walter Grabner
