Subj: [kl] Herb Blayman and his clarinet stands
Date: Mon, 12 Nov 2001 20:05:05 -0500

I just spoke to Herb and found out that, following a second heart attack
in Belen, NM, he has left the area and moved to Raleigh, NC. Herb is in
his mid 80s now and he wanted to live near his daughter.

As far as his stand business, that is over and they will no longer be
available. I'm going to try to get to see him next summer on a car trip
to NY. Hope I am able to manage it.

Herb was the first clarinet in the Metropolitan Opera from 1950 until
1976 when he retired and moved to Belen. Prior to playing at the Met he
was principal in Utah for one year, and a dynamite tenor sax player
doing gigs and shows in New York. He stopped playing sax after he
joined the Met.

My wife and I visited him on several occasions in New Mexico which was a
land he never tired of. I'm sorry that my old friend lives so far away
from me now.
