Magnus, by "middle register", do you mean the throat tones, second line, sec=
ond space, third line of the treble clef?

If so, I would imagine that quite a bit could be done by shortening the barr=
el, or replacing it with one with a narrrower bore. I don't know what kind o=
f barrel is normally placed on an S1, but you might try a "Moennig" style ta=
pered bore such as is made by a number of different makers, of by Buffet its=
elf.

You don't mention the 12th's above. Are they in tune, shcarp, flat? That wil=
l have a lot to do with your ultimate solution.
