I thought I might report about my good experience with one of our Sneezy.com sponsors, Larry Naylor's Custom Wind Repair. He has several articles about clarinet oiling on his website at http://www.naylors-woodwind-repair.com. I am just a customer and have nothing to gain for reporting to you.

My story is this: I have played on the same 1960’s Buffet R-13 Bb (80,xxx) in mostly semi-pro orchestras for over 30 years. It has always worked well for me, but I thought it was getting “blown out” and started looking around at new clarinets to buy. After trying quite a few, I decided my old one was as good or better, but could use some expert help. I had taken care of it, but was light on the oiling part. The wood was very dry, but never had cracked.

You can read for yourself his rationale for organic oil immersion, but my experience is that I basically have a new clarinet for a much lower price. This included key fitting and new pads, so some of the improvement may have to do with that. However, the instrument has a new resonance to it, the wood looks new and healthy, intonation is improved, and the response is better. The work was done in the time promised and with plenty of follow-up and answers to my questions afterwards.
