Subj: [kl] OT: mortality in rats
Date: Fri, 9 Nov 2001 13:08:40 -0500

Sorry - Completely OT, I know, but I'm intrigued as to how death can only be
99.9% fatal. Does this mean that out of 1000 lab rats, one died, but that
death wasn't fatal?

Is this the statisticians' legendary margin of error? Or d'you think that
one out of every 1000 rats has a near-death experience. Could it be that
some little rodent paramedics successfully revive 0.1% of rats? Or is it
that the Death of Rats' (apologies to Terry Pratchett) has a day off every
three years?

;-) <- just in case anybody thought I was being serious!
