I also have heard some recordings of impressive recordings of Bellison. I
believe Charlie Russo may also have been a student of his.

I am not sure of the reference here to New York sound, because I don't hear
that much similarity between Cohen and Glazer, for example. Also, I don't
know how much you can attribute a sound concept to Leon Russianoff. At the
time when I studied with him at least, he did not work on tone and was a
firm believer that each student had his or her own sound or voice on the
instrument. He explained to me that each should be individual. Other
students from other eras may have other experiences.
