These actions make tremeddous sense. I would add also not to leave the mouthpiece on the barrel for an extended period of time after playing, but to carefully wipe out the tenon socket of the barrel and dry the tenon of the mouthpiece, and let them dry separately.

As many of you know, I have been experimenting with various woods for barrels, particularily cocobolo. It IS necessary to dry out the tenon sockets carefully or they will swell more than a similar barrel made of African Blackwood (Grenadilla).

The material in my Cocus wood mouthpiece seems much harder and less porous than the cocobolo I have been using, but I stil wipe it dry carefully after playing.
