In a message dated 01-11-07 16:16:23 EST, you write:

<<The Amati has four right thumb keys, for low C, Db/C#, D, and D#/Eb. I
like having the thumb Eb, because I have short fingers and reaching the right
pinky Eb is a real stretch for me.>>

Once again, Donna's low C Amati is a 1984 Kohlert knock-off and I'm guessing
is quite a bit different from the new Amati bass clarinets. Just log onto
the Amati website and e-mail their customer service department. You'll
probably get your answer from both the Kraslice office and the US rep.

After having test-played two colleagues' new low C Selmer bass clarinets, and
drooled over the new low C Buffets at Bob Gilbert's (he's under $5K) in Los
Angeles, I'm reminded of the story of a traveling clarinet salesman. When
asked why low C Buffet and Selmer bass clarinets were so expensive, the
salesman replied, "Quality is like oats. If you want first class oats, you
pay for them. Once they've gone thru the horse, they're a lot cheaper."

Don Gross
La Canada, California...still happily playing a 1950 low Eb Selmer Paris bass
clarinet.
