Hi
the website of this software is http://www.whc.de . It is in -
unfortunately - german only. They have free downloadable demo-versions. I do
not use their latest versions but versions that are about 2 years old.
Capella is the program for notation. It is a mature product with extensive
possibilities. I find it about as perfect as any of the other major products
available. You can play the score with the computers midi synthesizer
(transposed for transposimg instruments, i.e. the clarinets) without
changing the text. It is unfortunate, however, that articulation (staccato,
legato) and dynamics can not be replayed. My version had several language
options to be chosen from during installation including english.
CapellaScan is the companion product. You can drive any TWAIN-scanner with
it. It will furnish a more or less fault-less interpretation of musical
scores for direct inspection on screen that then can be corrected rather
easily via a graphical interface before the score is saved in Capella
format. I understand that the most recent version 4.0 is much better than
the version I have. Upgrade policy is reasonable (I will have to do it one
of these days). My version does only recognize notes, keys, pauses etc. but
neither phrases and dynamics nor other comments. These have to be inserted
by hand. I used it to assemble chamber music scores from individual voices
(a jury may request this when it is not available from the publisher). I had
to spend hours to produce a usable version of a french trio for flute,
clarinet and bassoon. Work with single voices is however easier.
Cordially,
Thomas Schaffner
