Thank you for answering this for me. I won't post much to the list as this
displeases the members. I wish there was a way I could answer you privately
instead.

You've answered my questions about the brilliance because this is how I got
it in my mind about the bright sound of the clarinet when I was in high
school. When I got to college, the "dark" sound was introduced and this
nearly killed me.

My high school band director was from the French school of thought because
he preferred the brilliance of the clarinet as opposed to the "dark" sound
of academia.
