David Renaud asked:

<<<1) What is the anticipated life span use of a mouthpiece before refacing
is required. (Assume 150-180, 3-4hrs gigs per year plus practice.)

2) Will frequent outdoor gigs effect this drastically.

3) Will repeated exposure to transport in Canadian winter conditions,
cooling dramatically, and warming repeatedly effect its life span.>>>

I have no idea. Why? Because I have never had a facing wear out. The
mathematical principle involved is simple:

Mouthpiece + Stage Floor = Chip

. . . which leads to the corollary,

Mouthpiece + Chip = Door Stop

I have a selection of very fine door stops. The latest is a Greg Smith 1*,
which I successfully promoted to DS status last Friday night, making the
Symphonie Fantastique not quite so fantastic.

Fortunately, Mr. Smith was right quick about providing a selection of
replacements. Unfortunately, I had great difficulty picking the best one --
but now I'm back in business, with a spiffy new 1+ that makes my new Yamahas
sound better than I do.

Now if I coat it with stickum, or perhaps some anti-gravity coating . . .
