When I was in fourth or fifth grade, I used to leave my reed on all the
time. In fact I used to leave my clarinet (plastic yamaha) together during
the week until I had to pack it to take it to school. I remember, though,
that there was a massed school bands concert at the local civic centre for
something like year of the kids. When it came to play, I couldn't get a
sound out of the clarinet. I felt terrible. I had to sit there and
pretend to play. I felt such a fraud. I went up to my teacher (a
trombonist!) back stage as soon as I got off and tearfully asked him what
was wrong. He took one look and said my reed was rotten! Well, no one told
me reeds could go rotten! I was livid! So let this be a lesson for us all;
like underwear, reeds do need to be changed (at the very least, from time to
time!) Gavin

That may be hard - I don't remember if it was Bellison or not, but I do
think I remember that whoever it was is dead. So we may need to solicit a
more current testimonial.
