I suspect that a lot of people are aware of the importance of vowel sounds,
shape and size of the oral cavity, etc. in determining tone quality on wind
instruments, but that they may not refer to the principal specifically as
"voicing." That might account in part for the fact that you were
disappointed in the response to your survey.
