Well, MOST of us can't sing that high. I can! I am a coloratura soprano
with a freak high range, and can sing up to the high D above double high C.
That means that I CAN sing the clarinet's double high C (a double Bb for my
voice)---I have done this in performances several times, in the Lucia mad
scene.

I actually do sing the 'eeek' notes for my students, so they can hear how
'small' the note is, and then I sing the same note down an octave, and of
course, it has much more volume. Then I have them attempt to 'eeek' out a
note as high and as small as they can with their voices, and them ask them to
have the same feeling and do the same thing with the clarinet.

I do this because middle school students (and some high schoolers) often try
to SLAM the high notes, or force them. They blow as hard as they can, and of
course, the air column is too wide and too slow, and they don't get the note.
So once they understand the idea of the 'smaller' air column which is
faster, then I just remind them of this by saying "not force, finesse".
