If so, I now find that adding RH D# & LH B keys, plus half-holing RH
third finger, gives an effective and sudden change of timbre without
change of pitch.

Compare switching from standard clarion fingering for Bb to the
'Stadler' fingering (standard third space C# fingering minus LH3).
