Dear Tony,
It's just that I was sort of touched by Tony Pay's "kinder,
gentler" ways, and that he had mentioned both you and me. For some
reason I'm not upset with him anymore, although I would still like to
hear him play a Samba on his Basset horn while swaying his hips to the
lovely syncopated rhythms.
I am afraid to ask Mark Charette about the contest because he has
so many problems to deal with now that Sneezy's "Provider" has gone
bankrupt. I hope that he can find us a new one.
Tonight Don and I are going out to the Sunbird Resturant to hear
Brazillian guitarist, Barry Wedgle, who has a single act there. He has
invited me to play with him, so I will photocopy a few tunes from my new
Brazillian books. Barry and I have already played a few gigs together
with other standards. His wife is a very good percussionist and singer,
so we may be forming a band, "Blue Bossa".
Roger wrote to me privately trying to convince me that Moody had
provoked him, and Roger wanted me to hear his side, which went into
cyberspace for many pages. I told Roger that I didn't care who provoked
who, but that I thought Mr. Moody should make a CD of his good students
and send it out to anybody who wanted to hear the results, and that
Robert should also relax and finish his Doctorate without worrying about
what any of us think of his teaching techniques. Most of m students are
still struggling with learning basic scales and learning how to cover
their holes properly. I could care less about the altissimo range for
now. The ones who do go up to a high G sound just fine. I can't even
remember how they got there. I'm more concerned about them practicing a
chromatic scale very slowly. Haven't felt the need to practice harmonics
at all unless they happen by accident. The Galper Clarinet Method covers
everything that people need to know about clarinet playing.
I am going to NYC to be with my sister, Jane for a few days after
Don and I spend Thanksgiving in Dayton, Ohio with Don's relatives. Then
I'm taking the Amtrak from NYC to Toronto to visit Abe Galper and have
him show me how he teaches his books. I wish the UK was in Canada so I
could visit you guys too. Back to Brazil. ANNIE.
