Annie -

One of the great teachers I had once told me that I should keep in mind
that what I do in my teaching and my decisions has to reflect what I think
is best for MY students, not what OTHERS feel is best for my students.

Your post demonstrates this kind of important thinking - and I want to
compliment you on your consideration of what is best for your students.

By the way, I don't view you as a "traditional" teacher - I view you as a
very good teacher. When it comes right down to it, our teaching is judged
- not by our methods but by our results. And the results are best shown,
not by if our students make it into some wonderful orchestra (although that
is always a button bursting moment!) but if they continue to play and make
music - or perhaps teach others to love music also.

Bravo to you!

Best,
Roger Garrett
