Subj: [kl] Posting An Article On Teaching The Altissimo to Beginners!
Date: Tue, 23 Oct 2001 01:16:26 -0400

Roger, you suggested, "You might consider asking Robert to write an article
regarding his unusual approach. With some specific examples, a timetable,
and various other
interesting ideas (eg. when to introduce articulation and how he does that
in conjunction with altissimo playing for beginners.....etc.) might be
useful and helpful for everyone. I would enjoy reading something like that.
I don't believe anyone in the Articles Archives has discussed that kind of
approach yet - so it might be a good thing to have there......."

How about this? I will be happy to produce an article, complete with
demonstrative diagrams, timetables, etc if I can be promised that by vote of
the list here to whomever is responsible for it, the article will be placed
in the OCR as yours is.

The reasoning is:

There are many successful teachers and artists that read this list around
the world. If they read and agree that what I submit is not only feasible
but practical and a good contribution to general clarinet pedagogy, then it
SHOULD be recorded and presented as such. [Not for my personal gain, but for
general knowledge. If it is as successful as I am claiming, then shouldn't
it available as a pedagogical tool?]

Also...

I want my name and ideas, if acceptable to the general whole of this list,
not only beside acknowledged pedagogues of the clarinet world, but located
in a respected resource so that I can use it as a reference-as you seem to
be fond of doing. ;-) [This IS for my personal gain. {:-o ]

Here is what I will do. If I can be given a posted guarantee here from the
person responsible for what goes in the OCR that, if accepted by the
majority to be a credible, viable and valuable addition to clarinet pedagogy
in general, they will place it IN the OCR as your article is, I will create
the article and post it on my site www.musix4me.com <-- (nothing there right
now...in the process of clearing it out.).

I am completely receptive to fixing grammar and presentation (as long as it
retains the original intent). I would happily accept an editor's review and
correction before transfering the article to the OCR library.

See if you can make that happen, Roger (or anyone). I WILL GO ONE STEP
FURTHER, Roger. If these things come about and my article is placed in the
OCR, I will created candid videos of attempts to teach beginners with
follow-ups to see if I can create first year players who, by the end of the
first year, can play their chromatic scales from low e to high g'''. I will
also provide video of using my approach to help junior high and highschool
students who have seemingly chronic issues with sub-tones when
starting/articulating clarion and altissimo notes to g'''.

I do not want to create and submit an article for review by one or two
people to be entered into the OCR, even if those people are such established
names as Robert Marcellus and Leon Russianoff were. I want the list here to
read, review, think about and agree that it is viable and worthwhile delving
into and I want a statement on the article to reflect that the Klarinet List
approved of the article before submission.

Robert

[For those reading this, please forgive the politicking here. If you think
about it though, for a DMA student/performer who sincerely desires a
successful career as a clarinet professor (and performer, but that is an
aside), this can be a significant contributor to a successful beginning.
Thank you for your patience and willingness to read the article, if that is
indeed the case. ;-) ]
