Steve,

My Patricola played a little funny when I first tried
it. The instrument comes with 2 barrels, and you can
specify what lengths. Mine came with a 40 and 42
length barrel, and I found when I tried the 41 (mm)
barrel, the throat tunings and color evened out. I
think there is a lot of inconsistencies with their
barrels in general, as in other manufacturers as well.
Does the Eb have 2 barrels with it you can choose
from? You also might want to try to turn the barrel
around until it works for you (as mentioned on the
list earlier this past week.)

On my C clarinet, I had to get a longer barrel from
Patricola, which they sent me at no charge. I had a 45
and a 46 mm, and they sent me a 47 from Italy, since
the grenadilla 47 mm barrel was great at at Clarinet
Fest, and my instrument is rosewood (they didn't have
an extra 47 rosewood barrel with them at Clarinet
Fest.) I would venture to say trying another (or a
few) barrels of Patricolas make (of the same or
different lengths) might make everything fit into
place.

This isn't to say that other manufacturers don't have
inconsistencies with their instruments and barrels in
particular. I have yet to find a Buffet clarinet that
I didn't like better with one of Clark Fobes' or Guy
Chadash's barrels.
