"Minister Jackson" asked:
I would like to know, from your personal experience,
how the C Clarinet works and is used. I've been
thinking about getting one and playing all my great
excerpts on it. Are there any pieces that are
specifically written for C Clarinet?

The C clarinet has the same fingering and mouthpiece
as Bb. Works basically the same, keys are a little
closer, clumsy fat fingers can make it squeak a little
easier. I use it because my only ensemble experience
at this time is in a "string band" and this way I
don't have to transpose. It has a beautiful sound; the
best instrument I have ever owned! [I know it has a
beautiful tone because I listened to a couple of GOOD
players play on it.]

Might be some pieces written for it, but I haven't
really looked. Right know I'm going through a flute
book for which my teacher committed the accompanying
parts to CD.

My love for my C clarinet is undiluted, only because
my Bb is a 45 or 50 year old no name plastic wonder my
parents purchased from the Sears catalog for my
brother. Not a horrible intrument, mind you, but it
can't hold a candle to my beautiful Noblet 45 C
clarinet.

Happy tooting!
