I went looking for R-13s. Had a thing against RCs, but when I was told that
a nearby music store had two new Buffets in, I ran in to try them, taking
the then-best Eb I had ever played (a Selmer) and borrowing a tuner from the
store. Both clarinets played miles better and more in tune than the Selmer,
and it was hard picking out the winner, they were that identically good.

Before that there were lots of school and borrowed instruments, including a
Noblet. Probably all of them could have been redeemed by a great technician
to playing standard, but in practice there were only two: a weird French
thing and the Selmer above. What do you play on your instrument? What
literature does your eefer like?

Cheers,

Virginia
