I studied with Jane Carl. I did my MM in clarinet performance at UMKC
('97). She is definitely a fine player. Pretty good teacher as well. I
liked her, definitely respected her, but we didn't really click,
unfortunately. I would recommend her to anyone though.

Jane has a nice, dark and rich tone. I wish I could steal some of the
darkness. She is a very accurate and solid player.

I think she plays on a Richard Hawkins mouthpiece (med.-close) and a BG or
Rovner. I think she uses VD V-12 4s. Buffet R-13. She also uses a little
teeth-guard for her lower teeth. It has been about 4 1/2 years, but I think
she uses a neck-strap as well.

She works on her reeds, for sure. She helped me some with it, but knew I
was not all that interested in reed work. So we delved into the basics of
balancing and left it at that.

I'm grateful to have worked with her for more reasons than just music. She
is the one that turned me on to the possibility that I could have ADD. From
her suggestion, I start seeing the school counselors who directed me to
professional psychologists who set me up to see a psychiatrist for a
prescription.

On top of all of that, she is rather attractive. :-)

I think, after all is said and done, I was a kind of frustrating
disappointment for her. I'm sorry for that, but grateful to have been able
to go there. We got a lot done at UMKC with me as a clarinetist and
chambermusic player.

Robert
