I've noticed this, too. I always wet my reeds with water in a plastic
film container that fits quite perfectly in an extra barrel slot in my
LeBlanc double case. I also think that the reed life is extended by
doing this, but how it's done I don't know. Maybe the saliva digests and
breaks down the reed's wood fibers, therefore weakning the reed? Just a
thought.
