I must humbly disagree . . . I used Vandoren 5s on a B-45 for a number of
years, starting in high school through the first two years of college.
While I have since gone to a much lighter set-up (getting lazy in my old
age, I guess), it worked well enough to get through a bunch of auditions and
get accepted as a performance major at several music schools. Optimal?
Perhaps not -- but certainly it can "work," although perhaps not be *your*
preference.

Some folks like a huge amount of resistance -- Ricardo Morales comes to
mind. For some people, Vandy 5 on a B-45 is the weapon of choice.
Different strokes and all that.
