I have a student with the full Maestro thumbrest and one with the Etude.
The full Maestro is great, but expensive and has a lot of little parts. But
the fact that it is surviving this particular young girl is a miracle and
speaks well of the product. (This particular young girl came to me once
with a "broken" plastic clarinet. It was literally broken off in the bottom
joint. Picture: snapped over your leg like a stick.)

Both girls have the problem of weak thumbs that bend in an back while
playing, instead of forming a sort of C shape with their fingers around the
clarinet. They were putting their right hand index finder under the side
eb/bb key. The etude seems to be enough. We did have to have a repair man
put it on, as the holes did not line up with the holes on her Buffet E-11.

I think the Etude is well worth it. If I wasn't so comfortable with my
neckstrap, I would consider it, too, even though I do have a strong thumb.
