Subj: [kl] apology
Date: Tue, 9 Oct 2001 22:14:04 -0400

At the University of Evansville, we have a new instructor of clarinet this
year, Professor Amy Parks. She has been a student of list member Robert
Spring, and has a master's degree and will soon complete her doctorate at
Arizona State University. She is a superior player and a congenial
colleague.

I wish to offer a public apology to Amy. I suggested to her some time ago
that she might find occasional useful information about the clarinet,
clarinet playing, clarinet literature, etc., if she subscribed to
"Klarinet." I have been away from home and without computer access for two
days, and returned to find several dozen messages from the list, very few of
which had anything to do with the clarinet or with music in general.
Instead, we have several people who should be old enough to know better who
are bickering with each other for no purpose other than bickering itself,
and engaging in "one-ups-manship," trying to convince everyone else on the
list of the superiority of their intellect.

It's a shameful public display. In my considered opinion, no one's image of
the combatants has been enhanced, but the reverse has been the result.

Sorry, Amy. I hope for your sake as well as mine that it gets better soon.

Ed Lacy
