Subj: [kl] So I Played The Rozsa Today
Date: Mon, 8 Oct 2001 12:55:11 -0400

It's over...I have performed the Rozsa Sonatina for unaccompanied clarinet.

It was my first public, solo performance in five (5) years.

Overall Grade (IMHO) B

Generally, all the notes were there and it kept moving (boy does it move!).
I squeeked thrice (I consider "chirps" squeeks), one of which was supposed
to be an e3 at ff, so you can guess how obvious that was! LMBO!

Emmmbarrasing!

The dynamic contrast was there, just not up to what I desired for DMA level
playing. I consider myself to have the potential/talent to be successful at
recording, as Mr. Cohler and others are. My ADD tends to get in the way
though. I lose focus and that means, CHIRP! LOL!

Overall, I think it was a "B" performance, which under the circumstances and
how I had psyched myself out about it,...acceptable. I will continue to
work
on it because I have this thing...I MUST conquer it. What I mean is that I
must feel like, "Sheesh...that piece? That's nothing. Hah!" ;-) Right
now...
I do not feel that way about the Rozsa Sonatina...but I will.

My graduate Trio also played the Piston Trio (Fl, Cl, Bsn). Our Bassoon
player
apparently got nervous because I don't know that anyone has EVER gone 200+
for the first movement! LOL! Boy! He took off like a bat-out-of-hell. We
did
it though and a good stern look after the first movement made him take a
breath
and chill out.

In the end, I received comments that I kind of stood out in the Trio. Not
volume
or timbre or pitch, rather, qualitatively...all those things. I think I had
gotten my
nerves out of the way on the Rozsa piece that I was not nervous with the
Piston.
In any case, I am a little older than them.

When all is said and done, I am happy with today and look forward to future
"Performance Forum"s and recitals. If any of you happen to come by
Winchester,
Virginia...let me know. We can play some duos or trios.

Robert
