I use a piece of Plexiglas with some wet/dry (400) grit paper affixed with spray
adhesive. Yes, I know that Plexiglas is not perfectly flat like float glass,
but the piece I have (about 2" x 4") is small enough relative to the thickness
to make the tolerance imperceptible. It doesn't break, either. Beats a piece
of sandpaper held to a music stand!
