I hope that you won't leave, Jay. You added a lot to this list when
you were here before, and I was looking forward to reading more posts
from you now that you have (had?) returned. As a percussionist, your
posts added breadth to the list and gave us a wider view of music from
someone who is not exclusively a wind player.

_I MUST SAY_ that I regret deeply when this list goes off onto an 'ad
hominem' tangent and then someone of value to the list leaves. There's
no sense to it! Nobody wins. Everybody (including the departee)
loses.

The most effective procedure, of course, is: If it's ad hominem, don't
say it. Your feelings may well be justified, but just don't say it.

Someone here asked "What would you do if...." My answer is: "I
wouldn't reply to an ad hominem because I would only be compounding the
problem. Let it pass. If you feel the need to issue a put-down, not
answering would be _by far_ the most effective put-down anyway."

I hope you stay on the list, Jay.
