Too much of a gap tends to affect intonation, especially in throat tones
with the barrel pulled out too far. It adds quite a bit of volume to the
bore. Tuning rings are an easy and inexpensive solution.

It is probably tuned to A=442, as is becoming the custom these days,
especially in Europe and Asia.
