Walter,

Contrary to what you may think, I have read the postings regarding your
barrel work with great interest. It is an area I do not think I personally
could be successful in - but it is most definitely an area that needs to be
researched, experimented with, and reported on. I don't view your work in
this area as an advertisement. I would actually be very interested in
trying the barrel for myself to see what it is you are discussing.

I am also interested in Clark Fobes' work with bells. I already know his
excellent work as a technician, although I believe he gave up that part of
his work. I was lucky to have the contra alto clarinet overhauled by him
when I did. It is for this reason that I continue to read and save both
your's and his posts regarding these two areas. I have been compiling the
information for inclusion in a pamphlet for students. They also will have
the sources for contacting all parties - and, hopefully, with your's and
Clark's work, students and professionals alike will look forward to a day
when they don't have to be frustrated with the tuning issues you describe.

Best wishes,
Roger Garrett

"If I were to try to read, much less answer, all the attacks made on me,
this shop might as well be closed for any other business. I do the very
best I know how - the very best I can; and I mean to keep doing so until
the end. If the end brings me out all right, what is said against me won't
amount to anything. If the end brings me out wrong, 10 angels swearing I
was right would make no difference."
