James Marioneau poted re the unfortunate girl (with her unfortunate
clarinet):

<<<The things you suggested are fine. I think the case will probably mildew
and have to be replaced. The repair shop would probably take each key off,
dry and reoil to make sure there is not any condensation which would lead to
eventual rust. I am not sure of this, just a guess.>>> <<<Hopefully the
young lady will get back to good health. She is fortunate to have
supportive friends like you.>>>

The only parts of the clarinet that will have a permanent problem, I'd
think, would be the pads -- the rest should be OK if the horn is allowed to
dry out slowly. THe hair dryer scares me -- a little rust on a blue spring
is probably a better end result than a crack.

Might I suggest a little WD-40 or silicone spray? If properly directred,it
will displace any water in the keywork.

<<<Hopefully the young lady will get back to good health. She is fortunate
to have supportive friends like you.>>>

. . . yes indeed. On the one hand, the health of her clarinet is certainly
less important than her own. On the other -- I imagine that she will be
more than overjoyed to get her clarinet back working again (I know I would
be). Major kudos to her friends to mend her horn.
