The late Ted Planas would have agreed with the above. He was perhaps the most
experienced and expert instrument technician in England at one time and told
me that it was not only pointless to oil a clarinet bore but oil residue
tended to retain dust etc.
He said it was almost impossible for oil applied after manufacture to
penetrate the wood or to have any beneficial effect.
He was talking about modern instruments and his experience was mainly with
Selmers.
