Subj: [kl] Accompianist Payment?
Date: Fri, 5 Oct 2001 03:27:15 -0400

In a couple of weeks is the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Concerto
Competition, in which members of the orchestra audition on a solo
piece, and the winner gets to perform that piece with the orchestra in
the December concert. Anyway, everyone has to audition with a piano
accompianist (the accompianist is required only for the audition,
though, as the orchestra will be playing the background part for the
concert), and my chorus director was kind enough to agree to do this
for me.

My question is this: What is the standard payment made to
accompianists? I feel especially strongly about paying him because A)
he is giving up an entire afternoon for me in order to do this, and B)
the piece I selected is the first movement of the Mozart Concerto,
which I understand is a beast for the pianist (to say the least). Any
help that anyone could offer would certainly be appreciated!
