Subj: [kl] Wrong destination - Sorry.

My profound apologies to you Tim. I am indeed now getting so confused who
first posted the oil question, and it wasn`t you I realise now. I`ll put it
down to too many postings today, if you will allow me - I must have sat in
front of the `puter on and off for nearly 11 hours - I`m suffering from
who`s who, and who wrote what.

I am tho` extremely relieved that my right ear`ole is O.K. and I think that
is the reason why I`ve relaxed today, perhaps too much you may ask. I was in
the car yesterday when a learner driver in front stalled and held up the
traffic. There was at the same time an incident on the pedestrian crossing
behind me which held up traffic coming in the opposite direction. So all is
stopped. But parked along side <my> open window is an emergency ambulance
with siren blaring full blast into my right lug hole, trying to shift
unsuccessfully the vehicles approaching the crossing. For fully 30 seconds
this noise penetrated my whole body and almost drove me to come to be the
'patient'. My ear did in fact go partially deaf for the rest of the
afternoon and I found that I could not teach properly. This siren volume
here in U.K. is most definitely damaging to the human ear if one is standing
by it.
I have spoken to the Surrey and London Ambulance services today, and have
hopefully got them to at least discuss this, and to get back to me. I have
written to my M.P. also. Sirens these days are in fact louder than what they
used to be. I can understand this in heavy and busy motor-way conditions,
but I believe it needs a re-think in pedestrian areas and on normal roads. I
had to cancel a rehearsal last night to ensure that 4 screaming trumpets did
no further damage, but I`m happy to say that there does not appear to be any
damage after my G.P. checked me over with his ear light.
I hope to get some response from the ambulance services. I believe they have
a great responsibility to actually care fully for the environment in
addition to their important work.

That`s my lot for today - I`m switching you all off now - goodnight.

T. W.
Lets hope we all don`t hear too many different kinds of sirens in the coming
months.
