With all due respect, I think I'll have to disagree with this. I have
thumb pain myself, and it's not restricted to that. It goes all the way
up my forearm and if I let it go too long, all the way up into my
shoulder. Ignoring it made it worse, so I have to play sitting down with
the bell on my knees. If I want to play standing up, I have to use a
neckstrap or after 2 minutes my entire right hand will be stiff and
inoperable from the pain and nerve pinching going on. There's enough to
worry about technically without having the problem of hand pain
hindering your fingering.=20

Just my $0.02 worth
