Klarinet Archive - Posting 000040.txt from 2001/10

Subj: [kl] Meyebeer Quintet

Some months ago the Meyerbeer Clarinet Quintet
was discussed in this group.
Kloecker's CD on Orfeo C 213 901 appeared in 1990
It then had three movements.
Now Baerenreiter has published two movements (BA 8731)
i.e. without the 'slow' movement, a theme and variations
with a slow introduction, which Kloecker
described as "instrumental parts inserted into the
manuscript score.. preserved separately.. belong to the
Quintet, without a shadow of a doubt"
Maybe it was by someone else after all? Baermann?
It is a mystery to me at the moment.
Anyway the first movement is quite competent
and the finale has a 'Jewish' dance in it, which is
especially appealing at bars 139 -145 - the accel.
from Adagio to Allegretto Scherzando.
