My own choice (after a year on a plastic student instrument) was to
go with lower resistance. When I was talking to dealers at
ClarinetFest a couple of years ago, the standard advice was similar to
what you've heard: "The best tone requires resistance, you don't get
something for nothing." But ease of playing was (and still is) more
important to me. Frankly, your 'body language' that is buried in your
first post suggests that you feel the same way.

In order to regain the 'feel' of relationships between equipment
and sound, experimenting with mouthpieces and barrels and reeds and
ligatures is less expensive and more productive, I think.

I am reminded of the standard complaint by beginning photographers:
"If I had a better camera, I could take more artistic pictures."
